WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. – A popular destination for local produce, artisan wares and specialty food and drinks is honoring veterans this weekend in Lehigh County.
The Slatington Farmers Market, at 8281 Route 873 in Washington Township, will hold a Veteran’s Day Celebration – “recognizing the unwavering strength of our past and present military personnel” – on Saturday, Nov. 11, according to a news release.
The event, to be held during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.), will feature the farmers market’s vendors offering various discounts and specials to customers identifying themselves as a past or present military service member.
“To all of those for whom have or currently serve in our military branches, thank you for your service,” the release states. “Please stop by and allow us to give you the extra recognition that you have earned and deserve.”
Amanda Ahlers, owner of Serendipitous Boutique at the farmers market, is helping organize the Veterans Day event.
Serendipitous Boutique, which opened in August 2022, offers clothing, handbags, jewelry and gifts. Ahlers also enjoys creating her own soaps, candles and body care items at the market each weekend.
On Nov. 11, Serendipitous Boutique will offer 20% off all purchases to veterans.
Sharing space with Serendipitous Boutique is Only Trees, offering owner Carol Mickey’s one-of-a-kind copper and silver wire trees, along with handmade resin and wood pieces. Mickey also hosts workshops to teach her wire-twisting techniques.
Only Trees will offer a 20% discount on select merchandise during the Veterans Day event.
Other Slatington Farmers Market vendors offering 20% off purchases to veterans and active military personnel (with ID) include: Kassidy’s Manga Lane, Embrace the Random, Commelinaceae Collector, Pet Boutique, Pizza & Burger Hub, True Blue Mediterranean, Sweets and Greens, Bulb Coffee, The Waffle Spot, Uncle Jay’s BBQ, Takkii Ramen and Superior Deli.
Vendors offering 15% off purchases to veterans and active military personnel (with ID) include Bleiler’s Produce Patch and AK Farms (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Discounts of 10% off purchases will be offered by Emily’s Marvelous Toy Shop, Crisafi Italian Market, Illumination Brewing (10% off merchandise and $10 flights), Slatedale Discount Provisions (10% off any purchase of $10 or more) and Vinny’s Sweet Shop (10% off all fudge and specialty chocolates).

Slatington Farmers Market opened in June 2022 in the former Keystone Lamp Factory on Route 873.
The 28,000-square-foot market, which features a 4,000-square-foot event space, is on the same campus as The Slatington Marketplace, an eight-year-old antiques and collectables market with more than 150 vendors.
“The individual small business owners at the Slatington Farmers Market have all worked very hard throughout the last year to make the market a solid retail and food establishment for the local community,” Ahlers said. “On behalf of my fellow vendors, we thank the local community for all their support and rest assured, we have many more ‘Thank you’ events planned in the upcoming months to show our appreciation and community dedication!”
