Three third-prize lottery tickets were sold in New Jersey for Saturday’s Powerball drawing as the jackpot jumped to an estimated $785 million for Monday night’s game.
A $100,000 ticket was purchased at the Speedmart on Haddon Avenue in Haddon Township, state lottery officials said. It’s worth twice the standard $50,000 because the winner spent an extra $1 for the Power Play option.
Tickets worth $50,000 each were bought at the 7-Eleven store on Kinderkamack Road in River Edge and Estevez Food on East 19th Street in Paterson. Each third-prize ticket matched four numbers plus the Powerball number.
Saturday’s winning numbers were: 1, 12, 20, 33 and 66. The Powerball drawn was 21, with a Power Play of 2X.
No one across the country hit the $748 million jackpot. The cash option for Monday’s drawing is worth $367 million. If someone wins Monday night’s $785 million prize, the jackpot would be the fourth biggest Powerball jackpot and the ninth largest of any lottery jackpot on record in the U.S.
No one has hit the top Powerball jackpot since July 19, when someone who bought a ticket in Los Angeles won a $1.08 billion prize. Since then, there have been 28 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner. That jackpot has not yet been claimed.
Four second-prize tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball were sold for Saturday’s drawing. A ticket bought in Michigan is worth $2 million because the winner bought the Powerball option. Other second-prize tickets were bought in California, Florida and Rye, New York.
The California ticket is worth $5,422,749, the other two $1 million each. California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. They differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states.
Meanwhile, no one hit the secondary $10 million Double Play drawing on Saturday. Those winning numbers were 14, 16, 26, 41 and 57. The Double Play Ball number drawn was 24.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $230 million with a cash option of $107.8 million.
