We all know design trends, like any other trends, often operate on a cycle, and right now, there’s a pendulum swing happening with home paint colors. Last year, warm tones, earthy neutrals, and sunset-inspired shades ruled the color of the year landscape, with picks like a rosy-beige from Sherwin-Williams, and Raspberry Blush from Benjamin Moore. This year, however, the majority of the 2024 color of the year selections are coming from the other side of the color spectrum. Blues, in particular, are leading the charge, signaling a larger shift toward incorporating cooler colors into our homes.

But this new “blue period” of home decor is nothing to be sad about. Learn more about all the 2024 Color of the Year picks below—including the many shades of blue and a few unexpected, but just as exciting outliers.
Benjamin Moore: Blue Nova 825
Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year is richly saturated with violet undertones. This color is great for anyone who’s ready to make a statement and isn’t afraid of choosing a more dramatic color story in their home. Pair it with bold orange tones to complement the velvety blue for a balanced, eye-catching color story.
Sherwin-Williams: Upward
Sherwin-Williams
While this soft-blue shade may not be the first thing you picture when imagining “earth tones,” it’s inspired by something that’s there every time we step outside: the sky. Aptly named “Upward,” Sherwin-Williams’ Color of the Year is a breath of fresh air and the perfect backdrop to natural wood accents and country kitchens.
Behr: Cracked Pepper
BEHR
Stepping away from the blues for a moment, Behr went with a bold neutral for its Color of the Year. While that may sound like an oxymoron, Behr’s Cracked Pepper—a soft black shade—is a perfect companion for neutral and modern decor palettes. Pair the dark tone with soft whites and warm woods and you’ll have yourself a cozy and chic abode.
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams: Persimmon
HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams
The 2024 Color of the Year collection from HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams did include an ocean-like blue in the lineup, but the primary pick is Persimmon, a bold, refreshing orange tone similar to terra-cotta, but with more brightness and saturation.
Valspar: Renew Blue
Valspar
Back to cool tones, Valspar’s 2024 Color of the Year pick is a greenish blue that reminds us of Y2K-era aqua tones. (In fact, it’s similar to Aqua Sky, Pantone’s 2003 Color of the Year.) But Valspar’s version is very 2024, positioned as a great complement for coastal and cottage-core decor, and a perfect candidate for the color-drenching paint trend.
Dunn-Edwards: Skipping Stones
Dunn-Edwards
While blue can be a bold color choice, Dunn-Edwards’ Skipping Stones is calming and meditative. The shade has mild green and gray undertones that create a timeless, sea-like blue, perfect for a serene bedroom environment.
Glidden: Limitless
Glidden
Yellow can be an intimidating paint color, but the soft, buttery yellow picked as Glidden’s 2024 Color of the Year is anything but. Limitless is a subtle warm hue that’s just a step up from beige, but will still add instant character and charm to your walls. And, dare we say, it’s kind of French?
